Frequently Asked Questions
Everything below is how the site actually behaves today — including the parts that are limitations rather than promises. If an answer is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

Local-first by default
Local studios keep your bytes in the browser tab — Canvas, Web Audio, SubtleCrypto, Web Workers, pdf-lib and pdf.js — so nothing reaches our servers.
Limits stated, not hidden
Memory ceilings, network-dependent studios and best-effort results are documented in each studio panel rather than buried in a terms page.
Published algorithms
SHA-2 and SHA-3 digests, WCAG 2.x and APCA contrast, SI unit definitions and standard geodesy formulas — implemented, not approximated.
20 languages, Arabic and Urdu RTL
This hub is maintained in all 20 published locales, so the answer you read in your language is the same answer we publish in English.
Privacy and your data
Are the tools really free, with no sign-up and no daily limits?
Yes. All 37 studios open immediately with no account, no credit card, no daily task quota and no watermark on exported files. The site is funded by advertising, not by charging for processing.
Do my files leave my device when I use a tool?
For the local-first studios, no: compression, PDF merging, JSON formatting, hashing, coordinate conversion and similar work run inside your browser tab with Canvas, Web Audio, SubtleCrypto, Web Workers, pdf-lib and pdf.js. Your input never reaches our servers.
Are there any tools that do make a network request?
A few network studios are request-based by design — HTTP and API checks, DNS record lookups, SSL certificate inspection and website status checks. Those necessarily contact the host you ask about, and their panels say so. Never point them at credentials you care about.
Is it safe to run confidential or client documents through these tools?
Local studios keep the bytes in your tab, which is stronger than uploading to a hosted converter. Still check each studio's privacy panel, remember that browser extensions installed on your machine can read the page, and avoid pasting secrets into any network-dependent studio.
Limits and performance
Why is there a file-size or memory ceiling?
Decoding, rasterising and archiving happen in your device's RAM instead of on a remote render farm, so the ceiling is set by your hardware and browser tab limits. Desktop browsers handle substantially larger PDFs, audio waveforms and ZIP archives than mobile tabs.
Can I keep working if my internet connection drops?
Yes for the local studios. Once a studio's JavaScript has loaded, purely local operations keep running with the network offline, and the site can be installed as a progressive web app for offline access.
Which browsers and devices are supported?
Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Brave on desktop and mobile. Studios that rely on WebAssembly, Web Workers, Web Audio or the File System Access API need those features enabled; if a studio cannot run, it tells you which capability is missing.
Can I process a whole folder of files at once?
The image, PDF and data studios support batch input with per-file settings, so you can compress, convert, merge or validate many files in one pass. Queue depth is limited by available memory — split very large batches into groups.
Formats, quality and commercial use
PNG, JPEG, WebP or SVG — which should I export?
SVG for icons, logos and diagrams that must stay sharp at any size; WebP at quality 75–82 for web photography and UI screenshots; PNG when you need lossless transparency; JPEG when maximum compatibility with legacy email clients or print pipelines matters.
Will compression visibly damage my images?
Lossy formats trade bytes for artefacts, so the answer depends on the setting. The image studio shows the resulting file size alongside a visual preview and a PSNR diff, so you can see what you are giving up before you export rather than discovering it later.
Are generated outputs free for commercial projects?
Yes. Code snippets, formatted data, QR and barcode exports, and transformed media produced from your own inputs carry no platform restrictions and require no attribution. Licences for third-party fonts, icons or source assets remain yours to verify.
Can I convert back and forth without losing data?
Round-tripping is lossless for text-based data such as JSON, YAML, XML, CSV and SQL. It is not lossless between lossy media formats: converting JPEG to WebP and back will not restore the original pixels, so always keep a master copy.
Accuracy and trust
How accurate are the results?
Local studios implement published algorithms rather than approximations: SHA-2 and SHA-3 for digests, WCAG 2.x and APCA for contrast, SI definitions for unit conversion, standard geodesy formulae for bearing and distance. No result is sent anywhere to be computed.
How do you test the tools?
Each studio ships with known-input checks, and results that matter — checksums, diffs, conversions — are verifiable by you on the spot with a second tool. Anything we cannot verify locally is labelled as best-effort inside the studio.
Do results differ between browsers?
Core algorithms are deterministic and identical everywhere. Presentation can differ slightly: number and date formatting follow your browser's locale, and text or font metrics vary with installed fonts and rendering engines.
What should I do if a result looks wrong?
Send the tool name, your browser and version, and a minimal input that reproduces it to contact@thefreeaitools.com. Do not attach real credentials or confidential documents — a stripped-down sample is almost always enough for us to reproduce the bug.
Languages, embedding and support
Which languages does the site support?
Twenty: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Arabic. Arabic and Urdu render fully right-to-left.
Can I embed a tool on my own website?
Yes. The embedded-tools library provides embedding snippets for the browser-only studios, so you can drop a compressor, formatter or converter into your own page. Everything still runs client-side on your visitors' devices.
How do I request a new tool or a missing feature?
Use the contact page and describe the task rather than the tool — what you are trying to produce, from what input, and what the current workaround costs you. Requests that name a concrete workflow are the ones we can act on.
How do I report a security issue?
Email security@thefreeaitools.com with a description and reproduction steps. Please do not attach live credentials, tokens or private documents in the first message — we will arrange a safe channel if one is needed.
Still need an answer?
Send the tool name, your browser and version, and the input you used (never real credentials or confidential documents) and we will reproduce it.
